Tri-Star Racing – Audex Report

Audax is not a race but rather a test of endurance with a minimum speed cutoff of 15km/h. Once a rider has completed a 200km or longer Audax he / she is a Randonneur for live. A Group of 10 (8 men & 2 ladies) started the 400km ride from Riverstone Lodge in Muldersdrift at 00:01 on Sunday.

The route took us through the Cradle of Mankind past Maropeng to Magaliesburg. The team cycled to Derby and reached Koster just before sunrise. The next checkpoint was in Swartruggens, 170km from the start.

The road from Swartruggens to Ventersdorp is long, straight and tough. The group started to split up into smaller groups as the distance, heat, wind and fatigue took its toll.

Reaching 270 km at Ventersdorp is a great mile stone in the ride reached before midday. Reaching 270 km at Ventersdorp is a great mile stone in the ride reached before midday.

Reaching Maropeng with 25km’s to go the team realized that they could finish this ride in less than 18 hours if they could average a speed of higher than 25km/h for the final stretch.

Immediately everyone started peddling harder taking turns in front and gave it their all. An awesome achievement and proof of how strong the human mind can be – the team achieved their goal and completed the race with 10 minutes to spare.

Congratulations to the Tri-Star Racing Team!
